Oh, the harbinger!
So what IS up...hmmm...'tis a wet, early autumn day. Garden is dead -oh, the harbinger! -but the flowers are still hangin' on. Is it time to panic about all them outdoor projects you didn't get to?! Indeed it is. And oddly enough we just finished work on the Made in Aurora Christmas record. As a kid who watched all them Christmas variety shows I remember when it occured to me that they were all taped (yes, with tape) way earlier- likely in the summer even. I tried to imagine 'em all gathered around the 'ol tree crooning Good King Wenceslas while they were sweatin' like Nixon as it was still 89 degrees outside. And now I finally got to experience it.
But it was fun- the Made In Aurora record (vinyl, baby!) that was released for Record Store Day in April -a compilation of Chicago area songwriters/bands -sold out the 500 run pressing. It benefitted the Paul Ruby Foundation for Parkinsons research. So they decided to do a holiday release, for to get out by Black Friday, assuming anyone will have any money to spend still. Here's hoping. But Dick Smith, our swamp-billy band, contributed a coupla tracks, and I was lucky to play on a coupla other cuts as well- with HOSS, Kevin Trudo, and a big group song as well. A mess o' tipsy folks on a warm, mid September late night gettin' all...Christmas-y. Magic.
Beyond that...writin' some songs, booking up winter gigs, baking a squash -just happy to be here. Go see some live music, friends!
